Wedding Reception Songs

75px-note The music that plays at both your ceremony and reception is a very important part of your wedding. I know I say that a lot, everything about your wedding is important, but some things are more important that others. The songs you pick for your wedding will evoke memories every time you hear those songs for the rest of your life.We could discuss the possible music choices for days. For now I’m just going to let you know about some of the more popular songs and options. For a traditional wedding you will need to choose some special songs ahead of time. They may include some songs for the following:

Songs for your ceremony.
Bride and groom entering the reception as husband and wife for the first time.
Bride and groom’s first dance together.
Bride’s dance with her father (or stepfather, father figure or combination).
Groom’s dance with his mother (or stepmother, mother figure or combination).
Cutting of the cake.
Throwing of the bouquet and garter.
Any special traditional or family songs that need to be played.
The last song of the evening (it does not have to be Donna Summer’s last dance).

When you pick your DJ or band you will discuss your music choices at length. They will have lots of suggestions for you, but it’s hard to make decisions in a short meeting. You need to take the time and listed to different possibilities.

Let’s try to discuss this in an organized manner and start with the songs for the ceremony. Almost every type of service you have plays some type of music, so lets discuss some of those options first. Again, whoever is providing the music for your ceremony will have lots of options for you. There is nothing wrong with following their advice. It’s just nice to hear some other ideas from a different perspective. I’m going have separate posts on each of the topics to keep it organized. I’m organizing the songs so you can hear them without having to download anything, so bare with me as I will get the rest of this series up and running in a few days.
