Wedding Reception Sites

Posted on | February 1, 2010 |

When it comes to choosing the place to hold your wedding there are lots of options and factors to consider.  Make sure you visit at least a few places, I’d say between 5-10 minimum.   Tour the facility, have a taste test, get a detailed report of what they offer.  Then you need to compare the pros and cons of each.  Obviously your budget will have the greatest impact on where you choose, but location, convenience, services offered as well as many other things need to be considered.

While you can get married anywhere, there are some places that are more common and popular then others.  As always these are just some idea’s and suggestions so don’t be afraid to consider other opportunities.

Traditional Wedding/Banquet Halls - These are large facilities that can accommodate many events at the same time.  They can also accommodate hundreds of guests.  Most are full service facilities that will offer much more in their packages then other places.  They also have many vendors that they work with and recommend.  While the price may be higher you must take into account everything you are getting (which is usually a lot) so you can properly compare with other reception spots.

Smaller Wedding/Banquet Halls -  These halls usually don’t accommodate more then one or two weddings at the same time.  They can’t accommodate receptions with large guests lists, usually limiting your reception to about 200 people.  These halls can give a little more of a personal feel and offer full service packages like the larger halls.  The will also have vendors that they work with and recommend.  This can be very helpful if you are having a hard time making decisions.  They are not going to risk their reputation by recommending someone who is no good.

Lodges & Clubs - Elks lodges, Moose Lodges, Italian American halls, VFW halls, the list goes on and on.  Many of these supply everything you need (if not most of what you need), and can be a great alternative to traditional halls.  They are usually less expensive per person, but again make sure you are comparing everything you are getting in relation to the price.  While some offer catering, others don’t and you have to supply your own food or caterer.  This can be a great alternative.  You can have it catered by a catering company or restaurant and it may even save you money.

I’m not done yet, there are still more places to explore.  I’ve run on long enough for tonight.   I’ll try to get the rest posted as soon as possible.
