Wedding Decorating - part 2

Once you have decided on the basics (tables, linens, glass & silverware, etc…) you can move on to some more of the details. Do you want streamers, theme decorations, balloons, etc…. you need to decide on the type of atmosphere you want for your wedding. Formal, casual, party, whatever the case may be. You can then have a better idea of what to get. If you want a formal wedding, balloons and streamers are probably not the way to go.
While the centerpieces of your table are a major component, there are other table decisions you need to make as well. If you are going to have favors, do you want to place them on the tables? I do think this is the best way to go. It is easy for everyone to just take them and leave when are ready.
I’ve been to plenty of weddings where, at the end of the night, the bride and groom stand near a table full of favors as everyone lines up to say goodbye. The bride and groom then hand out favors as they say their goodbyes. This is also a time for guests to give you their wedding gift. While it is totally personal preference, I’m not a fan of this way.
I feel that you should take some time during your wedding (during the cocktail hour is my favorite) to say hello to everyone that took the time to come to your wedding. It’s a small gesture that your guests deserve. Most of your guests will give you your wedding gift then and you can relax and enjoy the rest of your night. When people start lining up to say goodnight to you it makes all your guests feel it’s time to go and may end your party earlier then you want.
I think I got a little off track here, what were we discussing? Oh yes the tables. You want to coordinate your centerpieces with your favors, just tie them together somehow, ribbons or the same color. You also might want to consider other items to put on the tables, glitter, shells, stones, anything that fits your theme or atmosphere. Now would be the time to figure out if you are going to have napkins, matchbooks, mini notepads anything that you personalize at your wedding. The tables are a good place to lay these out for your guests.
