Wedding Blog - create your own (part 2)
Posted on | May 22, 2010 |
Once you have decided between Blogger and WordPress you need to chose a blog address. You can choose any type of name you want, as long as it’s not taken already. They will let you know right away if it is. If I was creating one for myself I might choose the name “Tracy getting Married” or “Tracy and Charlie tie the knot”. You can use something more generic if you want to continue blogging after your wedding is over. I might pick something like “The life of the Westins” or “The Westin Journey”.
There is no limit to what you choose, it doesn’t have to have any logical connection - just pick something that fits you and that you are happy with. Once you start you don’t want to worry about it or keep changing sites. If you really hate the name you can always just re-title your blog. This would mean that your address would remain the same (for example www.weddingplanneronline.brainyblogger.com), but once you loaded that page the title you put there would be different (then the header would read “All things wedding”). If you need more help just e-mail me or leave a comment.
Once you are up and running you can post about anything you want. How you are feeling, what receptions halls you are thinking about, the colors of the bridesmaids dresses, whatever you are in the mood to discuss. You can post pictures or links so you can keep family and friends that are not nearby informed of your decisions. Don’t be afraid to make some sort of disclaimer right away. Let your family and friends know that while you want to share this special time with them and value their opinions, you are not opening your wedding choices up for debate or criticism.
Sharing a blog with your family and friends is great, but by doing so you can also gain friendship and support from others who are going through the same thing. If you leave your blog open for anyone to read you will be surprised at how people can find you. Who knows, you may be able to give ideas and inspiration to others as well. You may also gain some perspective from people who don’t know you and are not biased by personal feelings. At times an objective opinion may be just what you need.
