Cupcake Wedding Cake

I recently spoke about cupcake wedding cakes and making your own. If you choose to have one made for you instead, it should also save you a significant amount of money over a traditional wedding cake. You may not have as many options with flavors and icing, so be sure to check before you get your heart set on something you can’t afford.
Keep in mind that you can get some great cake deals at places like grocery store bakeries and discount Clubs (Costco, Sam’s, BJ’s). Check with them to see if they do cupcake wedding cakes as well. They do a great job and usually cost much less. Most of the bakers that work there have great credentials. They don’t get to do as many fun and unique items either so many times they love work like this.
If you like the idea of a real wedding cake and a cupcake wedding cake, you are in luck! I’ve seen some really nice displays where a small, traditional wedding cake is used along with cupcakes. They can be displayed many ways, on top of a cupcake tree or along side the cupcakes in an elaborate display. Use your imagination. You can even incorporate a cake topper if you like. This is a great compromise, you get the whimsy of the cupcakes as well as the tradition of a cake.
The cake/cupcake option will probably cost you a little bit more, but as long as you are not blowing your budget don’t feel guilty and go for it. If you are baking the cupcakes and cake yourself this is a great option to do.
You can easily freeze a small wedding cake along with the cupcakes. You can use the same store bought cake mix as you need for the cupcakes. It gives you the time to complete the cake/cupcakes and not feel too much pressure. This is a great project to get family members to help you with, Aunt’s are great for last minute details and set up.
