If you are looking to add a little something to your wedding, consider a theme.  I’m not talking about a big one like a luau or costume wedding.  I’m talking about a subtle theme that runs through the wedding, tying it all together.  A great theme to use is butterflies.

Why butterflies?  They just seem to go nicely with weddings.  The are delicate and elegant and you can use them in many different ways throughout your wedding.  If you happen to love butterflies, great.  This will be an easy choice for you to make.  But you don’t need to have a long time love for butterflies to use them.

Most people like butterflies, they are pretty and nice to look at.  There are many ways that you can bring them into your wedding.  You can just do a few things or make it a full blown butterfly wedding, it’s totally up to you.  Here are just a few items that you can use for your wedding, just to get you started and your creative juices flowing.

Save the Date Butterfly Magnets

“Flight of Fancy” Butterfly Guest Book and Pen Set

“Spring Elegance” Laser-Cut Butterfly Favor Box (Set of 24)

Butterfly Lid Bubbles (Set of 24)

Silver Butterfly Place Card Holder

Crystal Butterfly Bell

You can use butterflies anywhere.  In your flower arrangements, your centerpieces, favors, hair, nails, shoes, jewelery, on the tables, in your decorations, the list could go on and on.  You can even have real live butterflies join your festivities.

There are lots of companies out there that sell live butterflies that you can purchase to release during or after your wedding.  Usually this is done as part of the marriage ceremony.  If you are having an outdoor wedding you can work the release of the butterflies right into your ceremony.  You and your husband can release them together or you can give the task to other important people in your lives, like parents or siblings.

If you are getting married inside you can release them after the ceremony has ended. I’ve seen this done after a church ceremony.  When all the guests had left the church, the bride and groom stood on the steps of the church and released the butterflies together.  It was pretty neat to watch. That said, releasing butterflies is definitely not necessary to have a butterfly wedding, so don’t let that deter you from using butterflies as your theme.  It can be expensive and just isn’t for everyone.
